#CoolBoy, Singer and Actor. It’s Joe Jonas

Ok, so I’m not sure about you, but my knowledge of the Jonas brothers used to be relatively sketchy. I mean, I’ve probably heard one of their songs before, and there was once something about chastity rings in the news, but aside from that, it was pretty much zilch. They’ve always been ‘there’, but I’ve never really taken too much notice. Up until a couple of years ago that is when it seems the Jonas brothers went from being Disney’s American Dream, to our American Dreamboats! The brothers themselves, Nick, Joe and Kevin are all singers cum actors, with Nick and Joe dabbling into modelling from time to time. Underwear modelling to be exact-  so right up our street!

Youngest brother Nick Jonas posed for Flaunt magazine in some Calvin Kleins, a shoot that was very Marky Mark-esque (see here for the images) which was of course, right up our street, and Joe Jonas is the newest face for the Guess underwear campaign. So what does it take to go from a teen heartthrob to just a heartthrob? We decided to delve into the Jonas history and have nominated middle brother Joe as this weeks #CoolBoy!

The Jonas Brother first rose to fame in the mid 2000s with their pop songs and innocent faces. They toured with the likes of Backstreet Boys and Kelly Clarkson and began to get a bit of a following themselves. They were signed by Disney and subsequently landed their own TV show. They also featured in the Disney musical teeny bop film Camp Rock alongside Demi Lovato who was also part of the new-age Disney clan. From there they carried on bringing out hit pop songs, and Americans hailed them as the paradigms of virtue- which helped a lot with the purity rings the lads used to sport. These were ditched a few years down the line, much to the horror of many parents.

The success of their singing careers and billboard charts slowed down, and the demand for the boys was slowing too, but their career had opened up a lot of opportunities for the Jonas Brothers, with them moving into TV, being part of the IT crowd and more. They decided to give music a break and pursued work separately. Kevin, the eldest, got his own show with his fiancee, and Nick and Joe made appearances when they documented the bands preparation for a comeback. Unfortunately it was short lived, and the band finally split up and cited creative differences. Joe, however had already been writing songs for artists like John Legend and more, so we can’t imagine the split affected his own creativity too much.

After the split Joe continued to work with artists on songwriting and collaborations. While working with other artists, it clearly sparked something in him and. he decided to set up a new band sans brothers Jonas. The band named themselves DNCE and released ‘Cake By The Ocean’. Yep- that ridiculously catchy song that was ALL over every radio station, is the product of a Jonas brother. Not only did it go down well worldwide, it also produced some pretty funny questions on what the hell Cake By The Ocean actually meant. Jonas confirmed it was about Sex On The Beach. He didn’t state whether it was the cocktail or, y’know though.

The song must’ve impressed someone over at Guess HQ (or maybe they were old school Camp Rock fans) as at the start of this year, Joe was drafted in as the new face of their first underwear campaign “Hero.” The campaign, shot by Yu Tsai and styled by Avo Yermagyan features Jonas solo and alongside Charlotte McKinney, who wears Guess lingerie.

“It’s the first time in history that Guess has commissioned a male star to be in an underwear advertising campaign. He’s a great talent who embodies all the characteristics of Guess’ DNA — sexy, young and adventurous,” said Paul Marciano, chief creative officer and executive chairman of the board.

We must admit, while he’s not as buff as lil bro, he still looks good in the shots (see below), and we can imagine that it will certainly help in opening even more doors for Joe. We’ll keep an eye out on the FROWs at Men’s Fashion Week next season!

So what do you think about Joe Jonas being our #CoolBoy?
